How to Preach the Gospel: A Beginner’s Guide
Jesus gave us a clear mission:
“Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” – Mark 16:15
Whether you’re just getting started or looking to be more confident, this simple guide will walk you through how to share the true gospel clearly and biblically—step by step.
Step 1: Start the Conversation
-
Greet kindly: “Hi, my name is [Your Name] from [church Name] Church.”
-
Ask simple questions:
-
“Do you go to church anywhere?”
-
“Are you a Christian?”
-
“If you died today, do you know 100% for sure you’d go to heaven?”
-
These questions help you understand the person’s beliefs and give a natural transition into the gospel.
Step 2: Offer the Good News
If they’re unsure or give a works-based answer (e.g., “I try to be a good person”), say something like:
“The Bible says it’s not about our good works—going to heaven is much simpler. Can I show you from the Bible how you can know for sure you're going to heaven?”
Step 3: Preach the Gospel Clearly
Use these 5 gospel truths, each with simple Bible verses and questions:
1. We Are All Sinners
📖 Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned...”
📖 Romans 3:10 – “There is none righteous...”
🔹 Ask: “Have you ever done something wrong?”
Everyone has sinned—we all fall short of God’s perfection.
2. Sin Deserves Hell
📖 Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death...”
📖 Revelation 21:8 – “...and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire...”
🔹 Ask: “Where should a sinner go according to the Bible?”
Even one sin is enough to deserve God’s judgment in hell.
3. Jesus Died and Rose Again
📖 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 – “Christ died for our sins... was buried... and rose again...”
🔹 Ask: “How many of your sins did Jesus die for?”
Jesus paid the full price for all our sins with His death, and He rose again to give us eternal life.
4. We Are Saved by Faith, Not Works
📖 Acts 16:31 – “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.”
📖 Ephesians 2:8-9 – “For by grace are ye saved through faith... not of works...”
📖 Romans 3:28 – “Justified by faith without the deeds of the law.”
🔹 Ask: “What do we have to do to be saved?”
The Bible is clear—salvation is by believing in Jesus, not by keeping commandments, baptism, or good deeds.
5. Once Saved, Always Saved
📖 John 10:28 – “They shall never perish...”
📖 Titus 1:2 – “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised...”
📖 I Corinthians 3:15 – “...he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved...”
🔹 Ask: “If God gives you eternal life, can He take it back?”
Salvation is forever. A believer may be disciplined by God on earth, but will never go to hell.
Step 4: Apply It Personally
🔹 “Before today, were you trusting in Jesus or in your own works?”
🔹 “If you had died one hour ago, where would you have gone?”
🔹 “Do you believe now that Jesus is the only way, and you’re no longer trusting yourself?”
If they understand and believe the gospel, move to the next step.
Step 5: Lead Them in a Simple Prayer
Let them know that believing happens once. You can offer to help them pray to express their belief in Jesus.
Here’s a simple prayer:
“Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner, and I know that I deserve to go to hell. I believe You are the Son of God, that You died for my sins, and rose again to save me. I’m not trusting in myself anymore—only in You. Please save me and give me eternal life. Thank You for saving me. Amen.”
Step 6: Confirm Their Understanding
After praying, ask:
-
“According to the Bible, if you died right now, where would you go?”
-
“What did you do to be saved?”
-
“Can you ever lose your salvation?”
If they say “Heaven,” “I believed in Jesus,” and “No, I can’t lose it,” then praise God—they understand!
