Angel Voices, Ever Singing
By Francis Pott
Lyrics
round Thy throne of light,
angel harps, forever ringing,
rest not day nor night;
thousands only live to bless Thee
and confess thee Lord of might.
mortal eye can scan,
can it be that Thou regardest
songs of sinful man?
Can we feel that Thou art near us
and wilt hear us? Yea, we can.
o'er each work of Thine;
Thou didst ears and hands and voices
for Thy praise combine;
craftsman's art and music's measure
for Thy pleasure didst design.
of Thine own to Thee;
and for Thine acceptance proffer,
all unworthily,
hearts and minds and hands and voices
in our choicest melody.
Thine shall ever be,
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
blessed Trinity:
of the best that Thou hast given
earth and heaven render Thee.

About This Hymn
This well loved hymn by Francis Pott invites worshipers to join the unending praise that takes place around the throne of God. Drawing from the vivid scenes in Revelation, the hymn pictures angels lifting their voices in ceaseless adoration. Pott uses this heavenly imagery to call believers on earth to add their own praise, reminding them that Christian worship is part of something far greater than the present moment.
The text celebrates God as the source of beauty, art, music, and every good gift. Pott highlights the idea that all human creativity finds its highest purpose when offered back to the Creator. Whether through singing, service, or daily faithfulness, the hymn encourages worshipers to bring their best to God with sincerity and joy.
Its strength lies in its expansive vision of worship. The hymn lifts the singer’s thoughts toward the grandeur of heaven, while still grounding the act of praise in the ordinary lives of believers. It portrays worship as both exalted and practical, heavenly and earthly. The result is a moving call to honor God with every talent and every breath, echoing the everlasting song of the angels who stand before His throne.
