Jesus Christ Is Risen Today
By Anonymous
Lyrics
our triumphant holy day, alleluia!
who did once, upon the cross, alleluia!
suffer to redeem our loss, alleluia!
unto Christ, our heav'nly King, alleluia!
who endured the cross and grave, alleluia!
sinners to redeem and save, alleluia!
our salvation have procured; alleluia!
now above the sky He's King, alleluia!
where the angels ever sing: alleluia!

About This Hymn
"Jesus Christ Is Risen Today" is a Christian Easter hymn that originated as a 14th-century Bohemian Latin carol titled Surrexit Christus hodie. The hymn was first translated into English in 1708 by John Baptist Walsh and included in his collection Lyra Davidica . The hymn's joyful refrain, "Alleluia," underscores its celebratory theme of Christ's resurrection.
The melody, known as "Easter Hymn," was also featured in Lyra Davidica. This tune was later harmonized by William Henry Monk in the 19th century and remains widely used in Christian worship.
The hymn has been included in numerous hymnals across various Christian denominations and continues to be a staple in Easter services, celebrating the triumphant resurrection of Jesus Christ.
