More Secure Is No One Ever - Security
By Carolina Sandell
Lyrics
Than the loved ones of the Saviour,
Not yon star on high abiding
Nor the bird in home nest hiding.
In His holy courts they flourish.
From all evil things He spares them;
In His loving arms He bears them.
From the Lord His children sever;
Unto them His grace He showeth,
And their sorrows all He knoweth.
Jacob's God will ever shield thee;
Rest secure with this Defender—
At His will all foes surrender.
God His children ne'er forsaketh;
His the loving purpose solely
To preserve them pure and holy.

About This Hymn
“More Secure Is No One Ever,” originally written in Swedish by Carolina Sandell Berg, is one of the most beloved hymns of comfort and assurance in Christian history. Known in English as “Children of the Heavenly Father,” this hymn was penned in 1858 by Sandell, often called the “Fanny Crosby of Sweden,” whose life was marked by both deep faith and profound sorrow.
The song expresses the believer’s security in God’s unfailing love. It opens with a statement of perfect safety: “More secure is no one ever than the loved ones of the Savior.” These lines echo the unshakable truth found in Psalm 46 and John 10:28, where Jesus declares that no one can pluck His sheep out of His hand. Sandell’s words bring the promises of Scripture to life, reminding us that the child of God rests in the arms of divine protection, no matter the storms of life.
Carolina Sandell wrote many hymns after a personal tragedy. When she was twenty-six, she witnessed her father, a Lutheran pastor, drown before her eyes during a boat trip across a Swedish lake. Out of her grief came an outpouring of songs about the nearness and care of God. “More Secure Is No One Ever” reflects that deep personal trust forged in suffering. It is both tender and triumphant, expressing the peace of one who knows that even in loss, God remains faithful.
The hymn’s verses describe how God guards His children day and night, guides them through every trial, and carries them safely home. Its gentle rhythm and pastoral imagery, birds sheltered by their nest, children cared for by a loving Father, have made it a favorite for both worship and private devotion.
Musically, it is often sung to the Swedish tune “Tryggare kan ingen vara,” whose simple melody perfectly complements the calm confidence of the lyrics. It has crossed many languages and denominations, sung at baptisms, funerals, and family devotions alike, comforting hearts with its message of divine security.
At its heart, “More Secure Is No One Ever” is a hymn about trust. It invites believers to rest in God’s care with childlike faith, knowing that the One who holds creation in His hands also holds every soul that belongs to Him. Whether in joy or sorrow, this hymn reminds us that we are eternally safe in the love of our Heavenly Father, a truth that endures beyond life’s trials and into eternity.
