O Rejoice in the Lord (He Makes No Mistakes)
By Ron Hamilton
Lyrics
When trying His servant and molding a man.
Give thanks to the LORD though your testing seems long;
In darkness He giveth a song.
O Rejoice in the LORD
He makes no mistake,
He knoweth the end of each path that I take,
For when I am tried
And purified,
I shall come forth as gold.
So I looked at the cross of my Savior instead.
I bowed to the will of the Master that day;
Then peace came and tears fled away.
God strengthens His children and purges in love.
My Father knows best, and I trust in His care;
Through purging more fruit I will bear.

About This Hymn
“O Rejoice In The Lord” was written by Ron Hamilton in 1978 (later modified in 1990). The song was composed during one of his personal trials—shortly after he lost his eye due to cancer—which gave it deep emotional weight and authenticity.
The lyrics express trust in God’s sovereignty, especially in times of testing. Lines like “God never moves without purpose or plan” and “For when I am tried and purified, I shall come forth as gold” remind Christians that suffering and trials are not meaningless—they refine and strengthen faith.
The hymn has been included in hymnals such as Trinity Hymnal (Revised Edition) and Rejoice Hymns. Its meter is 10.11.11.8 with refrain, and it is published by Majesty Music under Ron Hamilton.
