About Audrey Assad

Audrey Nicole Assad (born July 1, 1983) is an American singer‑songwriter and contemporary Christian musician known for her reflective, piano‑driven style and deeply spiritual lyrics. She has released multiple studio albums and EPs, blending her faith with artistic expression in ways that resonate with many worshippers and listeners.

Assad was born in Secaucus, New Jersey, to a mother from Virginia and a father who was a Syrian‑born refugee. She grew up in a religious Protestant household affiliated with the Plymouth Brethren and began playing the piano at age two, developing a lifelong passion for music.

Her musical career began in earnest around 2002 in Florida, where she led worship, performed at local venues, and started writing her own songs. After relocating to Nashville in 2008, she recorded the Firefly EP independently, which helped launch her into the wider Christian music scene. In 2009 she signed with Sparrow Records, and her debut album The House You’re Building (2010) was named Amazon’s Best Christian Music of the Year and iTunes Christian Breakthrough Album of the Year. She has toured with well‑known Christian artists and collaborated with musicians like Chris Tomlin, Matt Maher, and Jars of Clay.

Assad later formed her own label, Fortunate Fall Records, releasing independent albums such as Fortunate Fall (2013), Inheritance (2016), Evergreen (2018), and Peace (2019). Her work often includes new renditions of traditional hymns alongside her own compositions, with themes rooted in faith, prayer, and worship.

In her personal life, Assad converted to Roman Catholicism in 2007 and has spoken openly about how her faith shaped her music and ministry. She married William Gene Price III in 2011 and has children. She has also been public about her experiences with mental health challenges, including obsessive‑compulsive disorder.

Audrey Assad’s music is celebrated for its lyrical depth, contemplative quality, and ability to create an atmosphere of reflective worship, making her a distinctive voice in contemporary Christian music.
