About Eva Brown Lloyd
Eva B. Lloyd (1912–2006) was an American educator and hymn writer, born on March 9, 1912, in Jameson, Missouri, and passing away on August 26, 2006, at Parkdale Manor in Maryville, Missouri. She was laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Maryville.
Lloyd was educated at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree, and at the University of Missouri Kansas City, where she completed her Master’s degree. She had a long career in education, teaching in Missouri elementary and secondary schools and serving as an English literature professor for fifteen years at Northwest Missouri State University. In addition to her academic work, she directed the Women’s Mission Union, demonstrating a commitment to both Christian service and leadership in her community.
She is best known in hymnody for her hymn “Come, All Christians, Be Committed,” which has been widely sung in English-speaking congregations and translated into Spanish (Consagraos, oh cristianos) and Swahili (Wakristo njoni tufanye). The hymn emphasizes wholehearted devotion and dedication to Christ, calling believers to a life of faithful service and commitment.
Through both her teaching and her hymn writing, Eva B. Lloyd left a lasting legacy in Christian education and worship, inspiring generations of students and church members to live faithfully and devotedly in their faith.
