About Frank M. Graham

Frank M. Graham (1859–1931) was an American Methodist minister, hymn writer, and influential figure in the Wesleyan holiness movement. Born on March 1, 1859, in Birmingham, Illinois, he later devoted his life to Christian ministry, combining pastoral leadership with a deep commitment to gospel hymn writing. His work reflects the strong evangelistic spirit of late nineteenth and early twentieth century Methodism, with a clear emphasis on personal salvation, holiness, and readiness for eternity.

Graham served as an ordained minister in the Wesleyan Methodist Church and held significant leadership responsibility as a District Superintendent in northern Georgia from around 1895 to about 1915. In this role, he oversaw churches, encouraged revival efforts, and strengthened the doctrinal and spiritual life of congregations under his care. His ministry took place during a time when the holiness movement was actively spreading across America, calling believers to a deeper, sanctified walk with God. In addition to his pastoral and administrative work, Graham was one of the founders of what is now Southern Wesleyan University in Central, South Carolina, demonstrating his commitment to Christian education and the training of future ministers and workers.

As a hymn writer, Frank M. Graham was remarkably prolific, credited with dozens of hymn texts that were widely used in revival meetings, camp meetings, and church gatherings. His hymns often focus on themes such as redemption through the blood of Christ, the urgency of salvation, the joy of conversion, and the hope of heaven. Titles such as “I’ve Been Redeemed, All Glory to the Lamb” and “Somebody’s Mother, Praying Tonight” reveal his ability to combine doctrinal clarity with heartfelt appeal. His writing style is simple, direct, and evangelistic, making his hymns accessible to ordinary believers while powerfully reinforcing biblical truths.

Graham continued his ministry and writing throughout his life until his passing on August 25, 1931, in Greensboro, Georgia. He was buried at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Greensboro. His legacy lives on through his many hymns, which continue to reflect the fervor of the holiness movement and the enduring call to repentance, faith, and a life fully devoted to God.
