Townend is the youngest son of an Anglican vicar. He began learning piano at an early age and started writing songs at age 22. He has released multiple solo albums and has written a number of well‑known contemporary worship songs that are widely used in church worship settings. Notable songwriting credits include “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us,” “The King of Love My Shepherd Is,” and “The Power of the Cross.”
In addition to his own music, Townend has produced albums for other artists, including Keith Routledge and Vinesong. He has worked closely with hymn writers Keith and Kristyn Getty on various projects.
Stuart Townend serves as a worship leader at Church of Christ the King in Brighton, England. He lives in Brighton with his wife, Caroline, and their children, Joseph, Emma, and Eden. Townend’s hymn texts and worship songs appear in contemporary hymnals and worship resources internationally.
