Mary Bridges Canedy Slade was a versatile American educator, editor, and poet whose life in Fall River, Massachusetts, was defined by social activism and a dedication to the training of young minds. She served as the assistant editor of the New England Journal of Education and was the founding editor of the children's magazine Wide Awake, which sought to provide wholesome, engaging literature for the youth of the late 19th century.
