Let the Whole Creation Cry

By Stopford A. Brooke

Lyrics

1. Let the whole creation cry,
"Glory to the Lord on high!"
Heav'n and earth, awake and sing,
"God is good, and God is King!"
Praise Him, angel hosts above,
ever bright and fair in love;
sun and moon, lift up your voice,
night and stars, in God rejoice!
2. Warriors fighting for the Lord,
prophets burning with His Word,
those to whom the arts belong,
add their voices to the song.
Kings of knowledge and of law,
to the glorious circle draw;
all who work and all who wait,
sing, "The Lord is good and great!"
3. Men and women, young and old,
raise the anthem manifold,
and let children's happy hearts
in this worship bear their parts;
from the north to southern pole
let the mighty chorus roll:
“Holy, holy, holy One!
Glory be to God alone!”

Psalm 148:1–13; Psalm 96:11–13; Revelation 5:13; Psalm 150:6

About This Hymn

“Let the Whole Creation Cry” is a hymn by Stopford A. Brooke that calls all creation to unite in praise to God. The hymn reflects a broad and expansive vision of worship, where not only humanity but all created things join together in declaring the glory of the Lord.

The hymn draws strongly from Psalm 148:1–13, which summons the heavens, the earth, and all creatures to praise the name of the Lord. Brooke echoes this universal call, inviting every part of creation to lift its voice in adoration. This theme is further supported by Psalm 150:6, which declares, “Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord.”

Another key element is the rejoicing of creation in God’s rule, as expressed in Psalm 96:11–13. The psalm speaks of the heavens being glad, the earth rejoicing, and the seas roaring before the Lord as He comes to judge the earth. The hymn reflects this joyful anticipation of God’s righteous reign.

The vision of universal praise also aligns with Revelation 5:13, where every creature in heaven, on earth, and under the earth joins in blessing, honor, glory, and power to God. This powerful image of united worship is captured in the hymn’s call for all creation to cry out in praise.

“Let the Whole Creation Cry” continues to be valued for its majestic and inclusive vision of worship. It lifts the perspective of believers beyond individual experience and invites them to see themselves as part of a vast chorus of praise that includes all creation, both now and forever.
